Sustainable BuildingWhat is Sustainable Building?
“Sustainable” or “Green” Building is the terminology used in the industry to denote the application of processes that are environmentally responsible, and resource efficient through a buildings life cycle.
Therefore, Sustainable Building not only refers to the Architectural Design of the build, but also the materials used and how they are fitted/installed.
In terms of Materials, more Sustainable materials can include types of Insulation, Brickwork, Glass, Plumbing, and so on.
Regarding Practices, the aforementioned materials need to be fitted in a way that also adheres to carbon reduction. Therefore, having builders that are skilled in the implementation of Green Building is essential in creating more environmentally friendly buildings.
As advocates of Sustainable Building, we also practice what we preach through our membership of the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC).
The NZGBC was created to create a common language of Sustainable Building for its members to follow. You can check their website and our membership status here.
